In the investigation of mainly stochastic global optimization based on heuristics, there has been a growth in literature of people that created a benchmark of the same type of functions, mainly lower dimensional GO problems.
Despite, the interesting question is how algorithms behave (or better: do not work) on which type of functions (also called landscape), there has been an abuse in averiging performance ofver test functions.
The wikipedia variant has the advantage, that we are dealing with an open site, where everyone can add its test functions. A set of os used functions is provided with a description.
